Roster Role: 5.30 PM Service Leader

Edit

This role requires you to:

  • Liaise with the Preacher in the week leading up to the Sunday, in order to ascertain the topic or main themes of his sermon. Work with him, or come up with creative supporting ideas yourself. For example, show a video or play a game that will help the congregation engage with the topic/theme; or incorporate the topic/theme into your segues, prayers or intro/conclusion.
  • At 6pm, we tend to aim for a 1 hour service. This is not absolutely necessary, it's just a guide. Due to the time of day/weekend and the collection of people we usually get at our 6pm service, we find that 1 hour is usually a suitable amount of time for concentration and engagement.
  • Mindfully prepare a service outline incorporating all required and desired elements, including rostered items and those you personally believe would be beneficial to include.
  • Print out the service outline for all people who will need one: yourself, preacher, musicians, Bible reader/s, prayer, tech person, etc.
  • Arrive at least half an hour before the service begins to set up anything you may need, to liaise with everyone involved in the service and to prepare yourself:
    • Confirm the songs and order with the Musicians.
    • Double-check the schedule and point out anything special to the Tech person.
    • Make sure all rostered people have arrived and are given service outlines and/or verbal instructions.
    • If someone doesn't turn up, please be prepared tp fill in for them, (if they're down to do something up front), or attempt to make arrangements for their role to be covered by someone else on the fly.
    • You can double-check those on the roster by checking the 'Rosters' tab on our website; the roster or reminder sent to your inbox; the rosters saved in Dropbox; or the posters just inside the Church Office door.
  • Just before the service begins, make sure the musicians have ended their music practise and the 'scrolling announcements' are running through.
  • During the service keep everything moving and make changes if necessary. If changes are made, be sure to let the necessary people know what's coming. For example, if the sermon runs exceptionally long, you may decide not to sing one of the planned songs.
  • After the service, ensure that you leave the lectern and surrounding area clean and tidy of all papers and washing up.
